DJ Ease

Occupation:
DJ/Producer

Background:

At an early age, DJ Ease (Angelo Simpson) was moved by Hiphop culture. At age 17, he began making scratch tapes and circulating them in Rush Henrietta high school in Rochester, New York. These tapes garnered him local recognition as one of Rochester’s premiere up and coming musical talents. This buzz and recognition grew exponentially when he began not only competing in, but dominating the DJ battle scene. The two-time Ultimate Breakdown battle champion would later move to NYC, where he would compete in, and win, 3 prestigious DJ competitions including: back to back victories at NYC Battlezone and a victory at East Coast Overdose. These Battles exposed DJ Ease to a larger audience and also caught the attention of New Jersey based hip-rock band “Borialis” (Capitol/ BMG). DJ Ease then went on to become the official DJ for the band, as they toured the United States, and Japan. While on tour in Japan he played the Summer Sonic festival with N.E.R.D., Jurassic 5, The Beastie Boys, Nas, Avril Lavigne, and countless other international acts. Footage and interviews from that Summer Sonic performance later appeared on ABC and MTV. Upon returning to the US, DJ Ease released his mixtape “The Alchemist Vs. DJ Premier.” This mixtape was widely praised and sold over 5000 copies in NYC and the tri-state area(of course it was Bootlegged). It was this release that caught the attention of Gangstarr Foundation member Afu-Ra. Afu was so impressed by the release that he took Ease on a 35 date North American tour with Wu Tang Clan member Inspectah Deck, and Cali Agents front man Planet Asia. This was such a success that Ease was asked to accompany Afu on a 7 month tour across Europe and Asia. Ease is now working as the official DJ for Afu-Ra and touring clubs worldwide.
