DJ Haul & Mason

Los Angeles-based DJs/producers Haul and Mason are firmly establishing themselves as the party-rocking DJ duo to watch. The two So-Cal residents have been founding and maintaining residencies at club nights, producing original tracks, playing live with bands, and blowing up dance floors all around the country for the past five years. DJ Haul and Mason’s unique approach to four-turntable performances seriously ups the ante of the art form, incorporating hip-hop turntablism and house-style mixing into meticulously planned party-rocking sets that, while focus mainly on hip-hop, cover all types of dance music.

Recently, along with global crate digger and producer Jed, the duo formed the Afrodisiac Sound System (www.afrosoundsystem.com) in association with Afrodisiac Records (West African Funk reissue label). On the DJing front, Haul and Mason have been busy promoting and holding down the dancefloors at their club nights Quality and Milk in LA, doing Scion’s Metro parties around the country, and recording sets in the studio.

On top of their regular club sets and production work, both DJs work in bands together and separately. For the past three years, the two have worked with LA’s 60-piece Dakah Hip-Hop Orchestra (www.dakah.com) in both live performance environments and the studio. Both Haul and Mason have co-founded and recorded material with their own projects, Hustle and Deejay & The Drummers. Fronted by MC’s Leggo and St John, Hustle is a 6 piece live hip-hop band with live drums, keyboards, samplers, and turntables. DeeJay & The Drummers, co-founded by Mason in 2001, is a turntable and percussion quintet that fuses modern beats from hip-hop to house with ancient rhythms from all over the world.
