DJ MERO MERO

One of Bolivia’s pioneers in the electronic music scene. Spinning music since 1996, he has been involved in many different projects. Shortly after acquiring his first mixer and turntable in 1996, Mero scratches and samples during 1997 in HipHop, Rock and Crossover bands, playing concerts and tours within Bolivia and Argentina. Naturally listening to all sorts of genres and expanding horizons, he moves to Switzerland in 1998 where he starts spinning House music for the first time and becomes resident in some small clubs.

Back in Bolivia during 2000, he becomes resident at Bolivia’s first club with electronic music and headlines many festivals. He produces two radio shows on two different stations: “El Ombligo del Mundo Funk”, showcasing black music from Soul and Funk to Hip Hop and “Psicotronica”, the first show in Bolivia’s electronic music scene. He also becomes very active in event production and in one occasion he closes down the capital’s shopping area San Miguel to host the mayor free Open-Air Festival, La Paz Parade 2000.

In 2001 he moves to the U.S. and becomes familiar with Break beats and others. In California he absorbs DJ culture with deep breaths. After bulking up on music and gear, he heads shortly back to Bolivia to continue to Brazil. Manaus was mayor during August 2003, where Mero Mero headlined the Trance Main Stage at Ecosystem 3.0, leaving sound impressions on the Brazilian crowd.

In 2004 he decides to investigate further the Brazilian culture and moves to Rio de Janeiro learning about Brazilian Drum ‘n Bass, and many other things. He starts DJing House at Ipanema’s Dama de Ferro and some other clubs. He returns again to Bolivia and is being absorbed totally by the local scene. Mero travels and works in Bolivia, he spins at Bizarro Club which opens in La Paz and becomes an important outlet for electronic music. This year Mero forms part of the TV Show BeatBox, pushing electronic culture. He also is invited for the first time to perform at the Bolivia’s largest trade fair FEXPOCRUZ. During 2005 Mero becomes Red Bull’s Mister X in order to host the Info Sessions for Red Bull Music Academy, showing his commitment and constant involvement in the music scene in Bolivia. He visits for the first time Bogota (Colombia) and spins in ChaCha, the capital’s highest club.

In 2006 Mero releases the first Bolivian compilation of electronic music, produced entirely by national artists. He also consolidates himself as a DJ keeping up with a busy schedule involving performances, event production and collaborations.

In 2008 Mero goes back to his roots with the BeatBox radio show on Stereo 97.3 FM. It becomes also an important year since he concludes a decade of DJing electronic music achieving an excellent track record. While having shared stages with all relevant artists that arrived in Bolivia, it’s also the fifth consecutive year he is being invited to FEXPOCRUZ, the fourth as Red Bull’s Mister X; he spins this year for Ministry of Sound in its first visit to Bolivia and signs an endorsement contract with M-Audio, as the first Bolivian DJ.
