Moist

Moist formed in Vancouver in 1993 and immediately started touring, taking time when they could to record the songs that best represented their bombastic live show. The results were Silver, released in 1994, and Creature, from 1996, which have gone platinum three and four times over in Canada. Through extensive world-wide touring with artists as eclectic as Neil Young, Hole, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Green Day, and through their headlining tour for Creature, Moist’s notoriety was firmly impressed upon the international music community.

Moist took a much-needed break after touring Creature and re-settled in Montreal. Singer David Usher released a solc disc, Little Songs, in 1998 (which saw guest appearances by every member of Moist), and appeared in Sarah McLachlan’s Building a Mystery video. In the meanwhile, the rest of the band ceaselessly wrote and demoed songs in their home studios.

When Moist returned to the studio in 1999 with producer David Leonard, the band realized the mood of their music had deepened. The previous focus on recreating their live shows in the studio was no longer as important as recording commanding songs. While working on Mercedes Five and Dime, it immediately became obvious that the walls of gnarled guitars, twisted Hammond organ chords and perpetual volume build-up had evolved into something more. Mercedes Five and Dime’s new themes, styles, and influences reveal Moist’s marked growth as a band.
