Tim Love Lee

Tim Lee was born in January 1970 and, as far as his taste in erotica and facial hair is concerned, has not progressed much further. However when it comes to music Tim is not so stuck in his ways. He started piano lessons at eight years old and from the age of fifteen, when he bought his first Moog, he has played in just about every type of band you can imagine, including a stint playing Hammond organ with Katrina and The Waves.

It was at The Waves studio that Tim and his friend Thomas (until recently the man behind Rough Trades ARE Weapons) recorded "No Hassle From The Man" in 1990. This was Tims first vinyl outing and a record so far ahead of its time that people will pay stupid money to get their hands on one of the 500 white labels that he hauled round the shops that summer.

Tims love of vinyl goes back to his early teens and by the time he moved to Nottingham to study music in 1989 he had several thousand records, more than enough to start his DJ career with. After a few years on Nottinghams famously Balearic house scene, Tim was ready to try something entirely new and started a series of parties at a club in the middle of the all night fruit market there. This unique mash up of funky sex beats, disco attitude and twisted humour was called Tummy Touch, and it can still be felt at Tummy Touch parties around the world today.

By the time Tim had finished his degree he had a DAT full of great tunes that he was impatient to drop during his DJ sets. However after sending out a few demos Tim realised the fastest way to get his hands on his tunes would be to release them himself. A P&D deal with Contact UK lead to the debut release on Peace Feast, Tims first label, to hit the streets in August 1994.

After five releases on Peace Feast, including the classic "Again Son", Tim was keen to do a CD release but knew hed need some funding. A loan from the Princes Youth Business Trust enabled Tim to record his debut album, Confession Of A Selector, but not before hed spent several months knocking around South America and moved to London. However by the time the album was finished Tummy Touch the label, which was initially only set up to release a couple of disco tracks, was doing much better than Peace Feast, and Tim decided to throw all his eggs in to one basket. Confessions was released on Tummy Touch via RTM in June 1997 and heralded the start of Tims career as an international DJ.

He is currently working on a new mix CD for Universals The Trip series and has decided to use Ableton Live to mix the whole album.

Tim says, "I had used the programme for some of the stuff I did on my last album but now that you can turn off the automatic time stretching its perfect for the kind of eclectic digital DJing that Ive been getting in to. Im planning on using either the UC33e or the X-Session from Evolution to control Live and am going to be taking the whole set up out on the road with me this summer."
